History

Don Nikolai started in the construction business in the mid-1960s, remodeling houses in the evenings after work.  Thanks to quality workmanship and a strong work ethic, he was soon able to establish himself as a mason and residential builder.  Business grew continually, and many residential developments throughout the Marshfield area can be attributed to Nikolai projects.

In the mid-1980s, Don’s son Robert joined the business fulltime as a certified welder.  With structural steel capabilities, the company began expanding into commercial work.  Not long after, residential projects were nearly a thing of the past.  Today the company specializes in commercial, agricultural, and industrial buildings, with a projects spanning the gamut from hospital remodels to gas stations, cheese factories, equipment manufacturers, and distributorships.

In 1999, Robert took on the role of president and eventually transitioned into sole ownership.  Since that time, the business has continued to grow.  Management has made ongoing investments to expand the company’s capabilities and ensure it can remain flexible and responsive to customer needs.

With a 50-year legacy in Central Wisconsin, Don Nikolai Construction is recognized for quality and experience.  The company handles concrete foundations, flatwork, rough and finish carpentry, and steel erection with its own in-house crews.  This comprehensive service approach gives the company control over project timelines, costs, and quality—providing customers with both value and security for their investment.
